In the morning of Wednesday, a Delta aircraft found itself immobilized on a runway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina.
The situation arose after the plane made a landing without deploying its front landing gear.
Officials from the airport verified that Delta Air Lines Flight 1092, originating from Atlanta and destined for Charlotte, touched down at approximately 8:40 a.m. local time and is currently unable to vacate the runway due to mechanical complications.
Although the precise nature of the aircraft’s issues was not explicitly stated by the airport or Delta, photographs taken at the scene reveal that it landed without its front landing gear deployed.
According to a statement by airport officials, the runway has been closed as efforts are underway to clear the aircraft from its current position.
They also noted that no injuries were reported, and the passengers were transported to the terminal by bus.
The closure of the runway is expected to cause operational disruptions. Despite the malfunctioning nose gear upon arrival, the pilot skillfully executed a safe landing of the plane.
In response to a request for comment from FOX3, Delta issued the following statement:
The safety of our customers and employees is our top priority. Although such incidents are uncommon, Delta flight crews undergo rigorous training to effectively handle various situations. We are pleased to report that Flight 1092 landed safely, and there were no reported injuries. We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience caused during this incident.
According to Delta, the Boeing 717 aircraft had a total of 96 passengers on board, in addition to three flight attendants and two pilots. One passenger, Chris Skotarczak, took to Twitter to commend the crew and pilot for their exceptional performance. He described them as calm and collected, stating that they did an amazing job in handling the situation.
