On May 10, 2023 at approximately 10:55PM Cameron PD responded to the 700 block of N. Travis in Cameron, Texas on a report of a gunshot victim.
The victim advised CPD that the victim was shot in the back of the neck by the victim’s spouse.
Cameron PD investigated and subsequently applied for a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of E. 7th.
Cameron PD, Milam County SO, Rockdale PD and TX DPS attempted warrant service at the suspect residence.
The suspect opened fire on law enforcement personnel, at which time, law enforcement fired back. The suspect was mortally wounded and one Cameron officer was wounded.
The Cameron officer was transported by AMR to the nearest ER, where the officer succumbed to wounds inflicted by the suspect.
There is no immediate danger to the public at this time.
Milam County SO requested that the Texas Rangers investigate this incident.
The names will be withheld until families are notified.
