The Canadian rapper, who was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot following a party in July 2020, has been sentenced to ten years in prison as of Tuesday (August 8).
Lanez’s sentencing had previously encountered several delays, initially in January and subsequently in February.
Back on December 23, Tory Lanez was convicted on all three charges brought against him during the trial: felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of an undisclosed, unregistered firearm, and recklessly discharging a firearm, stemming from the incident that occurred after a Hollywood Hills party in July 2020.
In the courtroom, Megan provided testimony stating that Lanez had proposed a $1 million payment to her in exchange for her silence regarding the incident.
On a recent Monday, Megan Thee Stallion delivered a victim’s impact statement, expressing, “Since I was brutally shot by the defendant, I haven’t had a single day of tranquility.”
Her written statement, read aloud in court, continued: “I am gradually recovering and finding my way back, but I will never be unchanged by this.”
Following his conviction, Lanez’s backers have initiated various petitions aiming to challenge his guilty verdict tied to the shooting incident.
In recent weeks, Lanez’s legal team lodged an appeal against the sentencing, contending that Lanez’s chest tattoo depicting a firearm negatively impacted his case and implied his affinity for weapons, among other arguments.
