Over the weekend, a mass shooting at an outlet mall in Texas claimed the lives of three members of a Korean-American family.
The Dallas office of the South Korean consulate in Houston confirmed on Sunday that a couple in their 30s, identified as Cho and Kang, along with their three-year-old child, were among the casualties in the shooting that took place at the Allen Premium Outlets near Dallas.
One of the couple’s children, a five-year-old, sustained severe injuries and is presently under medical care.
The family, comprising U.S. citizens, was residing in Dallas. Media outlets have reported that at approximately 3:36 p.m. on Saturday, a man exited a vehicle in front of the outlet mall and promptly began firing gunshots at people.
The shooting resulted in the deaths of eight individuals, and at least seven others sustained injuries.
The shooter, identified as 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia, was killed by a police officer who happened to be present in the vicinity.
According to some accounts, Garcia had affiliations with far-right groups.
