Two individuals have been taken into custody in relation to a drive-by shooting that resulted in the tragic death of a 9-year-old girl on Monday night.
The victim, identified as Da’Myiah Pickens-Barton, was inside a residence on Plainfield Road when the house was struck by gunfire at approximately 11:30 p.m., as reported by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
She sustained a single gunshot wound while inside the house. Pickens-Barton was subsequently rushed to a hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival, according to the sheriff’s office.
During the investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office, they proceeded to a residence where two suspects were located.
The suspects swiftly fled the scene in a vehicle and subsequently collided at the intersection of Galbraith and Daly on Tuesday, as stated by the sheriff’s office.
Another motorist sustained injuries in the crash, but their condition is expected to improve. In order to gather further evidence, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting ballistics testing on the weapons that were recovered.
Witnesses in the neighborhood provided their accounts, with Chris Pittman stating that the sound was unmistakably gunshots, awakening them at approximately 11:30 p.m. It was evident to them that the sound was gunfire and not fireworks.
The residence in question is a rental property and had been occupied by a single family until recently.
According to neighbors, they were not familiar with the family who resided there. The investigation is being led by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
