An unsettling message discovered at the residence in Maine, where a man stands accused of killing his parents and two of their acquaintances, has shed light on a possible motive for the horrific act.
According to officials, an anonymous note was found on the kitchen island at the location of the murders.
The note indicated that an individual had been subjected to molestation, and nothing had been done about it.
Additionally, The note also mentioned wanting to be “freed from pain.”.
The Bangor Daily News obtained an arrest affidavit on Thursday, which disclosed a troubling aspect of the case.
According to the affidavit, law enforcement officials believe that 34-year-old Joseph Eaton murdered Cynthia Eaton, 62; David Eaton, 66; Robert Eager, 72; Patricia Eager, 62, and their dog.
The crime scene was described as horrific. The note discovered by investigators conveyed comparable emotions to those expressed by Eaton in a lengthy and subsequently erased Facebook video that was posted on Monday, as reported by the Associated Press.
The man in the video remarked, “You know, being molested and such destroys someone.” He further lambasted Christians who are “unwilling to forgive.”
Joseph Eaton made his initial court appearance on Thursday. He is being charged with murder for the killings of Cynthia Eaton, 62; David Eaton, 66; Robert Eager, 72; Patricia Eager, 62, and their dog.
Authorities have yet to file additional charges against him for supposedly shooting three individuals on a Maine roadway on Tuesday.
The Bangor Daily News reported that Joseph Eaton’s arrest affidavit indicates that the victims’ corpses were discovered on Tuesday morning by Patricia Eager’s sibling at a Bowdoin, Maine residence. Upon observing blood on the front steps, she entered the home and encountered a gruesome spectacle – one lifeless body on the kitchen floor and two others elsewhere in the dwelling. The house was filled with shattered glass and bullet holes, with firearms strewn about. A fourth body was found in a barn on the premises.
Law enforcement officials have claimed that Joseph Eaton confessed to committing both the quadruple homicide and the highway shooting, which critically wounded 25-year-old Paige Halsey.
The police have not explained what they believe motivated Eaton to embark on the supposed killing spree. Eaton was taken into custody at the site of the roadway shooting on Tuesday, only four days after his release from prison, where he served time for a conviction of aggravated assault.
According to the Bangor Daily News, Joseph Eaton’s mother, Cynthia, picked him from prison on Friday and transported him to the Eagers’ house, where he subsequently killed the four individuals.
A judge ordered Eaton to be detained without bond on Thursday and ordered a psychiatric assessment, as reported by the Daily News. Eaton’s previous convictions include assaulting a child under the age of six and attacking a fellow inmate in Maine.
