Suspect in Tualatin deputy-involved shooting identified as 34-year-old Kristafer James Graves

Police have identified the individual who allegedly shot and critically injured a Washington County deputy during an eviction on Wednesday.

The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Kristafer James Graves, who resided at the Timbers at Tualatin Apartments.

When deputies arrived to serve a court-ordered eviction notice, Graves reportedly opened fire on them, striking one deputy multiple times around 10:21 a.m. In response, one deputy returned fire.

Initially, there were indications of a possible physical confrontation between the deputies and Graves, but authorities have since disproven this.

Instead, it was revealed that Graves started firing from inside his apartment before the deputies had a chance to communicate with him. Tragically, Graves died during the incident.

Following the exchange of gunfire, Graves retreated into his apartment and allegedly barricaded himself inside. Eventually, tactical teams managed to gain entry into the apartment, where they found Graves dead in the bathroom with a gunshot wound.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) states that it’s currently unclear whether Graves was shot by law enforcement or if his gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of his death.

Meanwhile, the injured deputy continues to be in critical condition at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.
