According to Sergeant Brian Walker of the Indiana State Police, Michael Emmons who was involved in the shooting incident in Kendallville has been verified to have passed away following a prolonged confrontation.
At 6:05 on Thursday morning, officers were able to enter the apartment where the shooter had barricaded themselves.
It is reported that the shooter was transported by ambulance but passed away while en route.
Sergeant Walker notes that there were more than 200 officers present at the location, and fortunately, no law enforcement personnel sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Additionally, two residents within the apartment building were unharmed, as per officials.
Due to the ongoing situation, both East Noble Community Schools and St. John Lutheran School have declared closure for the day.
Law enforcement officials have reported that the scene is currently being cleaned up.
Sergeant Walker has stated that the shooter discharged several hundred rounds of ammunition during the duration of the standoff.
