On Sunday, the RCMP issued an alert to residents of Minto, urging them to stay indoors and prevent anyone else from entering their homes as officers search for an armed suspect.
In light of the active situation in Minto, the RCMP posted on its Twitter and Facebook feeds, asking residents to remain inside and secure their doors shortly before 5 p.m.
The advisory provided limited information; however, an Alert Ready emergency notification was sent to cellphones and broadcast signals in the region by the RCMP.
According to the alert, officers are actively searching for a 55-year-old male who is reportedly carrying a firearm with intent to use it near Pleasant Drive in Minto.
The suspect is believed to be driving a silver, four-door Nissan with no hubcaps.
The RCMP, in a news release on its website, described the suspect as having brown hair. However, there is currently no available information regarding his clothing description.
The Alert Ready message advised residents to “shelter in place and avoid the area.”
This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
