‘Queen Charlotte’ Trailer Charts Bumpy Road to Royal Marriage

The first full-length trailer for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story opens with a young Charlotte expressing concerns about her arranged marriage to the king of England.

Netflix released the trailer on Thursday ahead of the Bridgerton prequel’s May 4 premiere.

“There is reason they wanted me. Why me?” Charlotte (India Amarteifio) asks as she makes the journey in a horse-drawn carriage to meet her future husband.

“Charlotte, there are worse fates than marrying the king of England,” her travel companion tells her.

Once the future queen begins the process of becoming a royal wife, the king’s mother tells her the union will help unify the country. But more importantly, she reminds Charlotte her role is to produce heirs.

“You will make lots of babies, as many babies as possible for my son,” she says.

Charlotte has never seen the king and wonders what she’s in for. “Is he ugly? Perhaps deformed?” she asks.

When she meets King George (Corey Mylchreest), she’s smitten and the pieces begin to fall into place.

The cast of the six-episode limited series also includes Arsema Thomas as young Lady Danbury, Michelle Fairley as Princess Augusta, Sam Clemmett as Young Brimsley, Freddie Dennis as Reynolds, Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute, Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor, Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury, and Hugh Sachs as Brimsley.

Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet) reprise their roles from Bridgerton.

Shonda Rhimes is showrunner, executive producer and writer of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

The show’s creative team also includes Betsy Beers, who co-executive produces. Tom Verica is director and executive producer.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story begins streaming May 4 on Netflix.
