At approximately 6:57 A.M. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, the Communications Center of the Hickory Police Department received a 911 call from a woman who reported that she and her husband were shot at by an unknown individual when they returned home to 240 14th Ave Dr SW.
When the officers arrived, they found Joy Tucker (45 years old), the woman, lying on the front steps of the residence with a minor knee injury.
The officers also found Prosper Nyatorwonu (46 years old), Tucker’s husband, lying on the ground near the back of the house with gunshot wounds. Emergency assistance was provided to Nyatorwonu by the officers until Catawba County EMS arrived on the scene.
Nyatorwonu was then transported to Frye Regional Medical Center where he was initially treated before being transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
The victims were unable to offer any information about the perpetrator.
According to the police, there were possibly 24 rounds fired at the location. Investigators are also exploring the possibility that this shooting is linked to Toland Huff Jr., who is suspected of shooting two individuals.
It has been confirmed by FOX3 that Huff is the son of Joy Tucker and the stepson of the deceased.
The investigation is ongoing, and further information will be shared as it becomes available.
