According to reports from police scanners, a significant amount of red and gold confetti has been discovered near the library, indicating that it may have originated from party poppers.
This news came as the authorities announced that the University of Oklahoma campus is now secure and no longer poses a threat.
Officials have announced that the University of Oklahoma’s campus located in Norman is now secure and poses no danger to the community.
This comes almost 90 minutes after the school had initially alerted the public of an active shooter on Friday.
Oklahoma State Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Foster has confirmed to FOX3 that the campus is safe and there have been no reported injuries.
In addition, University police have issued an “all clear” alert, and after a thorough search, no threat was discovered. The university has tweeted that there is no longer any threat to the campus, and the alert has been canceled as of 10:53 p.m. CT on Friday.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. CT, the University released a tweet alerting the public of an active shooter on campus, and urging individuals to take immediate action by running, hiding, or fighting.
This warning was quickly followed by another tweet indicating that the university’s police force was investigating potential shots being fired on school grounds, and advising individuals to steer clear of the South Oval area and take shelter where they were.
Late Friday night, the authorities gave clearance for the campus, and as a result, the shelter-in-place order was lifted.
