On Wednesday, a tragic incident occurred in the Soundview section of the Bronx, where an off-duty NYPD officer was fatally shot inside an apartment on Fteley Avenue.
The discovery of the incident was made around noon, but authorities suspect that it might have taken place earlier, possibly overnight.
The case is currently being preliminarily investigated as an attempted murder-suicide. A firearm was found at the scene as well.
According to officials, a tragic incident unfolded where a father shot his off-duty officer son before turning the gun on himself. Both victims sustained gunshot wounds to the head.
The son was expected to participate in a baseball game with a team mainly composed of police officers on Wednesday afternoon.
Concerned when he failed to arrive, his teammates decided to check on him, leading to the discovery of the devastating event.
The building’s superintendent described the father and son as members of a diligent and compassionate Dominican family, expressing disbelief at the heartbreaking turn of events.
As per neighbors, the officer who tragically lost his life was on the path to obtaining his detective shield and served in the Bronx narcotics division.
His father, as mentioned by the neighbors, had retired as a cab driver.
Detectives are still sifting through the scene to understand the motive behind the incident, and as of now, only limited information has been disclosed.
