Ghanaian musician and social activist, Wanlov, has shared his thoughts on his daughter’s infatuation with another girl, stating that he sees nothing wrong with it and fully supports her right to love whom she wants, regardless of gender.
In a recent interview with GhanaWeb’s Doreen Abanema Abayaa on the Talkertainment show, Wanlov discussed a range of issues, including his experiences and beliefs regarding the LGBTQ+ community.
During the conversation, Wanlov revealed that his daughter’s mother had informed him of her daughter’s infatuation with another girl, and he expressed his complete acceptance of the situation.
He stated, “I have a daughter who is currently infatuated with another girl. I don’t see anything wrong with that. She likes this girl, and that’s what her mother told me. She is eleven.”
Wanlov’s views on his daughter’s situation are reflective of his broader beliefs regarding the LGBTQ+ community.
He noted that the term “queer” is often used as an umbrella term to encompass all individuals who identify as LGBTQ+, including those who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and more.
Wanlov’s comments come at a time when LGBTQ+ rights are a contentious issue in Ghana. The country has strict laws that criminalize same-sex relationships, and the LGBTQ+ community faces significant discrimination and harassment.
Despite this, there has been a growing movement of activists and advocates who are pushing for greater acceptance and rights for the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana.
Wanlov is among the voices advocating for change, and his support for his daughter’s infatuation with another girl sends a powerful message about the importance of accepting and respecting individuals’ rights to love whomever they choose.
As the conversation around LGBTQ+ rights continues to evolve in Ghana and around the world, it is vital to have more voices like Wanlov’s advocating for acceptance and understanding.
By sharing his own experiences and beliefs, he is helping to break down barriers and create a more inclusive and compassionate society for all.
