Kionta Parks wanted for the shooting death of an 11-year-old girl at a Spalding County apartment

The sheriff’s office has reported that they are searching for a man named Kionta Jahaun Parks, who is suspected of fatally shooting an 11-year-old child in Spalding County.

The incident took place on Tuesday shortly after 1 a.m. at the Northside Hills Apartments in Spalding Heights.

According to Sheriff Darrell Dix, the child was hit by a bullet intended for someone else.

According to Sheriff Dix, one of the bullets went through the victim’s bedroom window and hit her, causing her death instantaneously.

The victim’s identity has not been released by the sheriff’s office yet, but the Griffin-Spalding County School System has identified her as a Cowan Road Middle School sixth-grader, and a letter has been sent to parents offering condolences.

Superintendent Keith Simmons expressed sorrow and empathy for the victim’s family and friends, and additional grief counselors will be available at schools to assist students in dealing with their emotions.

The district has advised parents to discuss the loss of life with their children and help them cope with grief. Meanwhile, authorities have declared Parks as armed and dangerous and are requesting the public’s assistance in locating him.

He is charged with felony murder and cruelty to children.
