Katharine McPhee’s Nanny Killed in ‘Tragedy’ at Car Dealership

A freak accident at a car dealership in Los Angeles has resulted in the death of singer Katharine McPhee and her producer husband David Foster’s family nanny, Yadira Calito.

The fatal incident took place last Wednesday morning (Aug. 9) at a Toyota dealership in the Mission Hills neighborhood of L.A., when an 84-year-old woman drove a 2017 Toyota RAV4 into the dealership.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the driver unexpectedly “accelerated for unknown reasons,” causing the SUV to crash through the service bay and into the Hamer Toyota dealership’s customer service reception area.

A 55-year-old woman, who was Identified Tuesday as nanny Yadira Calito by TMZ, was reportedly looking at cars in the dealership when she was pinned under the SUV.

According to TMZ sources, Calito was dragged for approximately 20 feet before the vehicle stopped.

The injured nanny was quickly transported to a hospital in critical condition, but despite medical efforts, she was later pronounced dead.

The crash also left two employees at the dealership injured. The two workers — a 23-year-old man and a 35-year-old man — were taken to a hospital alongside Calito. However, the LAPD shared that both are expected to fully recover from their injuries.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the tragic accident. According to law enforcement officials, the investigation into the incident is still ongoing and the motorist has not been publicly identified.

Katharine McPhee, who was on a concert tour in Asia with David Foster at the time of the incident, promptly cut her tour short and returned home when she heard news of the incident involving her child’s nanny.

The couple, who have been married since 2019, share a 2-year-old son, Rennie.

In a statement on Instagram, the former American Idol contestant cited a family tragedy as the reason for her sudden departure.

“It’s with a heavy heart I announce I have to miss our final 2 shows of our Asia run,” the 39-year-old performer wrote. “David and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us needs to get back home to our family.”

She added, “Please know how sorry I am and how much I wish to return one day and perform for you all.”
