After headlining the 2023 Coachella festival last Sunday, Frank Ocean won’t be returning to the stage for weekend 2 as planned.
A rep for the singer told Variety Ocean is unable to perform due to a leg injury he sustained on festival grounds ahead of his performance.
“After suffering an injury to his leg on festival grounds in the week leading up to weekend 1, Frank Ocean was unable to perform the intended show but was still intent on performing, and in 72 hours, the show was reworked out of necessity,” the singer’s rep said Wednesday, adding that Ocean suffered two fractures and a sprain in his left leg.
As a result, his doctor advised him against performing due to the severity of his injuries, according to the rep.

This news comes as many fans were left disappointed on Sunday when Ocean took the stage an hour late. Because of the delayed start, the scheduled two-hour performance ended abruptly due to local curfew restrictions. Fans were also let down when it was announced that his show wouldn’t stream live on YouTube like other performances at the festival in Indio, California.
“It was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos. It isn’t what I intended to show but I did enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon,” the “Novacane” singer said in the statement.
Ocean’s set last Sunday marked his first live performance in six years. He was first scheduled to headline Coachella in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused the festival to be canceled.
The popular festival returned in 2022, with Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Swedish House Mafia, and the Weeknd as headliners.
As a result of Ocean’s cancellation, Blink-182 will take his place as the Sunday headliner, according to published reports. Bad Bunny and Blackpink are still scheduled to headline on Friday and Saturday.
