According to sources, former President Donald Trump claims to have been indicted by a federal grand jury in Florida.
This marks the second indictment he has faced in recent months.
Trump has been under investigation for potential mishandling of classified documents, and special counsel Jack Smith has utilized a second grand jury in Miami to gather additional evidence.
Following a series of increasing developments in the federal criminal investigation, new information has emerged regarding Trump’s possession of numerous classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort subsequent to his departure from the White House.
The investigation has not only centered around the presence of classified documents, some of which are classified at the top-secret level, but also on Trump’s refusal to surrender the records when requested and potential obstruction of justice.
In the previous year, the FBI issued a subpoena to obtain classified records located at the property. Upon suspecting that Trump and his representatives had not returned all the documents as requested, a subsequent search warrant was executed, resulting in the recovery of approximately 100 additional documents with classification markings.
In addition to the investigation regarding Mar-a-Lago, another probe led by Smith in Washington focuses on the attempts made by Trump and his associates to overturn the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
Earlier this year, Trump was indicted by a grand jury in New York in connection with hush money payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign. He entered a plea of not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, and a trial date has been scheduled for March 2024 in relation to this case.
This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
