According to the woman’s family, a pregnant woman lost her life, and multiple others were injured in a shooting incident that occurred near Houston’s Sunnyside during a birthday party.
The tragic event took place in Margaret Jenkins Park around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, as confirmed by the Houston Police Department.
Investigators suspect that a confrontation escalated, resulting in more than 30 shots being fired, but the exact cause of the argument remains unclear.
Assistant Chief E. Garcia stated that a total of 36 shots were detected by HPD’s ShotSpotter technology.
According to authorities, three individuals, including two of the suspects, were transported to the hospital.
Additionally, a fifth person was grazed by a bullet but chose not to seek hospital treatment. Investigators are diligently pursuing any leads to identify any other potential suspects involved in the incident.
Autumn Vallian, the victim of the shooting, has been identified by her family as a 21-year-old woman who was five months pregnant.
Her mother, Ebony Vallian, revealed that she knew many of the individuals present at the park during the incident, most of whom she considered friends.
Two individuals have been apprehended by officers as possible suspects linked to the shooting, and further investigations are underway to determine if there are any additional individuals involved.
