The active manhunt still continues this morning for 35-year-old Eric Abril. Over 70 law enforcement personnel from numerous agencies including Roseville PD, Rocklin PD, Folsom PD, Lincoln PD, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, Grass Valley PD, Truckee PD, Yolo County Sheriff’s Office, Woodland PD, Davis PD, West Sacramento PD, and the Department of Fish and Wildlife actively saturated east Roseville and parts of Rocklin overnight, along with 24-hour air surveillance.
We have combed through and thoroughly investigated 64 tips since the beginning of the manhunt. Today, we continue to saturate and focus on the eastern Roseville and Rocklin areas as the most reliable source of evidence points to Rainier Court in Rocklin as the last known location for Abril.
FBI agents and U.S. Marshals are assisting with the manhunt, as well as the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, Sacramento PD, Elk Grove PD, Lincoln PD, and several other law enforcement agencies. We want to thank our law enforcement partners for their continuing assistance.
We have received numerous media inquiries questioning whether the deputy guarding Abril was asleep during the time of his escape. Our preliminary investigation reveals the deputy was not asleep during the incident. We have already opened an internal investigation to determine what occurred leading up to Abril’s escape. We can confirm at some point, Abril was able to defeat his restraints. We have begun conducting a thorough review of all corrections policies and procedures regarding inmate transportation and inmate supervision and security when it is necessary for inmates to be transported or housed outside our correctional facilities. We are taking every measure necessary to ensure all our policies and protocols are adequate and within industry standards to ensure this does not happen again.
Our primary focus remains on utilizing every resource available to us to locate and bring Abril back into custody. We are asking our community members to please remain vigilant to review their surveillance footage and contact us immediately if Abril or other suspicious activity related to this manhunt is viewed. You may submit a tip by calling (916) 409-1257 or submit a tip online: https://211connectingpoint.org/placer-county-tip…/.
