Republicans were criticized by former Donald Trump lawyer Michael Cohen for their “fake anger” over the prospect of the former president being charged soon.
Cohen insisted that he wants to see Trump held accountable for his role in the Stormy Daniels hush money story in his interview with MSNBC presenter Alex Witt on Sunday, but he doesn’t want to see a former American president put in handcuffs.
Cohen stated that putting Trump on trial would be “an embarrassment to our country” and that “as Americans, we have to respect the institution of the presidency. Donald Trump, sadly, served as president of the United States.
Witt continued by mentioning that Cohen received a three-year prison term for lying to Congress and conducting the hush money payments to Daniels and Karen McDougal in violation of election laws. Cohen added, “This stuff against me from the Southern District of New York is fugazi, and what I’d really like to see is the indignation,” in response to individuals questioning his veracity in order to support Trump. This Republican-led “false anger” that is currently being expressed.
Said Cohen: “The laws are universal and apply to everyone.
Nothing should change as a result. But eventually, you start to hear all of this Republican faux anger. While they were doing it to me, where was the outrage? They were silent, I guess. They are now in a panic because their supreme leader appears to be going to have some significant problems. You see, they’re supposed to care more about the United States and democracy than they do about their jobs and the party.”
