On Tuesday, Leslie Van Houten, a follower of Charles Manson, was released from a California prison after serving 53 years of her life sentence for her involvement in two notorious murders.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has confirmed that Van Houten has been released under parole supervision.
Following a state appeals court ruling in favor of granting parole to Leslie Van Houten, Governor Gavin Newsom declared that he would not contest the decision.
Subsequently, Van Houten, who is currently in her 70s, has been released from prison after serving a life sentence for her involvement in the infamous 1969 murders of Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary in Los Angeles, which were carried out by Charles Manson’s followers.
Van Houten’s attorney, Nancy Tetreault, confirmed that she was released in the early morning hours and has been taken to transitional housing.
