Carlee Russell admits her disappearance was a hoax

The 26-year-old woman, whose 49-hour disappearance from an Alabama highway gained national attention, has now confessed that she was not actually kidnapped.

According to the Hoover Police Department, she initially claimed to have been kidnapped when they interviewed her after she returned on July 15.

However, her attorney, Emory Anthony, issued a statement on her behalf to Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis, clarifying her story, which was read during a press conference on July 24.

On Thursday, July 13, 2023, the lawyer asserted that there was no kidnapping involved. According to the attorney, his client did not encounter a baby on the roadside and did not leave the Hoover area after being reported missing.

Furthermore, the lawyer stated that she acted alone and did not receive any assistance during the incident. “My client was not accompanied by anyone, nor did she stay at any hotel with anyone during her disappearance,” the statement continued.

The lawyer expressed his client’s apologies to the community, the volunteers who participated in the search efforts, the Hoover Police Department, other agencies involved, and her friends and family.

In conclusion, the lawyer requested prayers for Carlee as she addresses her issues and endeavors to move forward, recognizing that she made a mistake in this situation.

Carlee also humbly seeks forgiveness and prayers from everyone.
