Apple officially unveiled its first mixed reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro, at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 5, 2023.
The headset is a standalone device that runs on Apple’s own operating system, called rOS. It has two 1080p OLED displays, a spatial audio system, and a LiDAR scanner for tracking the user’s environment.
The Vision Pro is designed for both augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences. For AR, it can be used to overlay digital information on the real world, such as directions, game elements, or product information.
For VR, it can be used to create immersive experiences, such as playing games, watching movies, or exploring virtual worlds.
The Vision Pro is a high-end device, and it comes with a correspondingly high price tag. It will be available for purchase in early 2024, starting at $3,499.
Apple is not the only company that is developing AR/VR headsets. Other companies, such as Meta (formerly Facebook), Microsoft, and Sony, also have AR/VR headsets on the market.
However, the Vision Pro is the first AR/VR headset from a major consumer electronics company. This could make it a popular choice for consumers who are interested in exploring the potential of AR/VR technology.
