On Tuesday afternoon, the downtown area of Providence experienced a significant police presence following a report of an individual potentially armed with a rifle.

However, it remains uncertain whether the reported threat was valid.

According to Providence Police Maj. David Lapatin, they were informed via a call to FOX3 News that an individual was planning to fire a shot from the garage.

However, there have been no further reports or communication from the caller. As of 3:45 p.m., no imminent danger had been identified, but Lapatin noted that the search was still ongoing.

Armed officers were observed around the Biltmore Garage, and numerous buildings, including City Hall, were evacuated as a precaution.

People are advised to steer clear of the area while the police conduct their investigation.
