According to the Chicago police, a drive-by shooting in West Garfield Park during the overnight hours has resulted in one fatality and four injuries.
Authorities were called to the scene on the 4000-block of West Washington Street shortly after 2 a.m. in response to a reported shooting.
Upon arrival, they discovered a 40-year-old woman who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. She was promptly transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
In addition to the fatality, four other individuals sustained injuries during the shooting.
A 38-year-old woman was hit in the buttocks and is currently in fair condition at Stroger Hospital.
Similarly, a 39-year-old man was struck in the arm and is being treated at Stroger Hospital in fair condition.
Another 38-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh and is also in fair condition at Stroger Hospital.
Lastly, a 42-year-old man was injured in the leg and foot and is currently in fair condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital.
According to the police, one of the victims provided information that the shooter was inside a vehicle when the gunfire erupted.
However, there is no immediate description of the car available at this time. Presently, no individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
The investigation is actively being conducted by detectives from Area Four and is still in progress.
