A pregnant woman lost her life on Saturday evening in Avondale due to a gunshot wound, as reported by Cincinnati police.
Fortunately, her baby survived the incident. Upon receiving a shot-spotter activation, officers swiftly arrived at the intersection of Rockdale and Harvey avenues around 5:21 p.m.
To investigate the situation, they cordoned off an area a few blocks south of Rockdale Park, and this closure remained in place for several hours.
Despite their prompt response, when officers initially arrived, they did not locate a victim.
Nia Booker, aged 34, sustained a gunshot wound in the mentioned vicinity.
Following the incident, she was transported to UC Medical Center with severe injuries, sadly passing away shortly after her arrival, as confirmed by CPD.
Thankfully, her child survived the ordeal and is currently in critical condition, as shared by CPD Lieutenant Jonathan Cunningham.
No details were disclosed regarding the stage of Booker’s pregnancy.
As of now, Cincinnati police have not gathered any information about potential suspects, and the investigation is currently in progress.
