At just past 11:23 p.m. on March 31, 2023, patrol officers from the Sacramento Police Department were dispatched to the 4400 block of 71st Street in response to a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, the officers discovered a 29-year-old male victim who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Although the officers attempted to save the man’s life, he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department.
Given the circumstances, the investigation was handed over to homicide detectives and crime scene investigators, who processed the scene, spoke to witnesses, and canvassed the area.
Currently, the investigation is in its early stages and no information regarding a suspect has been provided.
Once the deceased’s next of kin has been notified, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release his identity.
