21-year-old female employee shot dead at Mariano’s in Evergreen Park

On Thursday morning, a tragic incident occurred at a Mariano’s store in Evergreen Park, resulting in the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old employee.

Police responded to an active shooter call at the grocery store located on the 2500 block of West 95th Street shortly after 9:00 a.m.

According to Evergreen Park police, surveillance footage reveals that the suspect, believed to be the victim’s boyfriend, entered the store in pursuit of her.

According to the Evergreen Park police chief, law enforcement apprehended an individual in the vicinity of the 1330 block of West Thorndale Avenue in Edgewater.

During the arrest, a firearm was successfully recovered.

The police were able to locate the suspect by retrieving a report from a prior incident involving the couple, which took place when the victim was employed at an Amazon store in Oak Lawn.

Utilizing the description of the man’s vehicle obtained from the report, the authorities were able to take him into custody.

Authorities consider the incident to be of a domestic nature and have concluded that there is no danger posed to the general public. Additionally, a minor injury to the ankle was reported.
