Authorities from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office are currently conducting a search for Alexander Goodwin, an 18-year-old male from Bridgton.
Goodwin is wanted in connection with the shooting of a juvenile during an Independence Day celebration in Naples on Tuesday night.
Law enforcement officials have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings or information regarding Alexander Goodwin.
Goodwin is described as approximately 5’8″ tall and weighing around 120 pounds. He has blonde hair and blue eyes. During his last sighting, he was wearing blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt.
If you happen to spot Goodwin, it is strongly advised not to approach him and instead promptly contact emergency services by dialing 9-1-1.
Following a shooting incident on Tuesday in Naples, law enforcement is currently in pursuit of a suspect.
According to a press release issued by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at 7:05 p.m. on the Naples Causeway. Reports indicate that a minor was wounded but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Initially transported to Bridgton Hospital, the injured individual was subsequently airlifted to Maine Medical Center.
As families gathered in preparation for a fireworks display on the Naples Causeway, the area witnessed high levels of activity.
Unfortunately, the shooting incident prompted the cancellation of the show.
However, the sheriff’s office has reassured the public that there is currently no evidence of a continuing danger. Collaborative efforts to address the situation involve the assistance of multiple agencies including Maine Fish and Game, Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office, Maine State Police, and the Windham Police Department.
The release also mentioned the invaluable medical support provided by Naples Fire/Rescue and Casco Fire/Rescue.
During Tuesday evening, Sheriff Kevin Joyce of Cumberland County addressed the media, providing details of the incident. As individuals eagerly awaited the commencement of the show, the tranquility was shattered by the sound of five gunshots, initially mistaken for fireworks.
Deputies immediately witnessed a minor being targeted and subsequently collapsing. According to Sheriff Joyce, the suspect, described as a young individual, hastily fled down the street. While one of the shots hit a vehicle, there have been no reported injuries to anyone else, as per the information known to the deputies.
According to Sheriff Joyce, the identity of the shooter is known to the sheriff’s office, and law enforcement is actively pursuing leads to locate and apprehend the individual.
The suspect fled into the nearby woods, as mentioned by the sheriff. Describing the shooting as an “isolated incident,” Sheriff Joyce appealed to the shooter to surrender themselves.
The investigation is currently underway. As a precautionary measure while the suspect remains at large, residents of Naples received an automated message from law enforcement.
A recorded message advised citizens to remain vigilant for an armed male believed to be carrying a 9mm handgun.
The suspect is described as an 18-year-old individual, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing around 120 pounds, with blue eyes and blond hair. The last known outfit consisted of blue jeans, a gray sweatshirt, and a black hat.
The automated call emphasized that if anyone spots the suspect, they should immediately contact 911. However, it strongly advised against approaching the individual.
